On the rocks, 2022 - 23

An ongoing series of sculptures featuring boulders from specific locations, playfully juxtaposing coastal tourism and geology. Originally commissioned for Celf Coast Cymru 10, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Wales Coast Path, the piece brings to the fore the cultural and environmental weight of ‘holiday mode’ and connected paraphernalia.

It also points to the impact of sea rise on coastlines, which makes any form of defence structure futile in many established holiday resorts. “Sit back and relax”.

Originally an indoor sculpture, an outdoor version was made for Wetland Dreams at Oriel Brondanw in July 2023, supported by a Henry Moore Foundation Artist Award for which Manon was a nominated recipient.
